Description
Pulmonary infection with Metastrongylus spp worms cause pneumonia in pigs. The worms are found in the bronchi and bronchioles.
Symptoms
Sows, nursery and fattening
- Tremors.
- Slow growth.
- Loss of weight.
- Pneumonia with cough.
Causes / Contributing Factors
- Pigs raised outdoors, especially those exposed to the ground.
Diagnosis
Analyze feces searching for typical eggs; evaluation of lung tissue.
Control / Prevention
- Limit access of pigs to the ground.
- Use of anthelmintic.
