Gruel feeding
Gruel is used in the nursery as a transition from sow milk to feed.
In the case of small piglets or piglets with a slow growth it is recommended to use dairy products and cooked cereals; for normal piglets pre-starter feed may be used. This basis is mixed with water (in winter it is better if it is lukewarm), and the proportion is slowly reduced so the piglets become adapted to the consumption of a growingly solid feed.
