Pig glossary

Killed or inactivated vaccine

The vaccine contains dead or inactivated microorganisms, so they will not be able to proliferate in the pig. This kind of vaccines can contain whole microorganisms or only those fractions that induce an immune response. They can also contain toxins that have been modified, so they stimulate an immune response but they are not toxic for the animal.
