Ileitis

Ileitis or proliferative enteropathy is a bacterial enteric disease caused by a Gram-negative intracellular bacteria, Lawsonia intracellularis, which preferentially grows in the cytoplasm of intestinal epithelial cells. The growth of this bacteria is invariably accompanied by localized proliferation of immature crypt epithelial cells that are infected.
