Janni Hales has mainly been focusing on development of free farrowing systems and the production and welfare of sows and piglets. In addition, she has carried out research in feeding and metabolism of gilts and participated in studies on ventilation and hygiene on solid floors in finisher pig production. She has conducted studies in commercial farms as well as in experimental settings and has experience with application of various methodologies. She has been involved in research and education on free farrowing in Australia and is collaborating with producers, international networks and universities around the world on implementation of loose housed lactating sows. She is currently part of the Solution Management department at SKIOLD Jyden working with research and development within all aspects of pens and production systems for pigs, both in-house projects and collaborations with other industrial and scientific partners.
