My work, as swine veterinarian and microbiologist, involves providing comprehensive diagnostic services and developing novel diagnostic tools and techniques. My research interest focuses on understanding how opportunist bacterial organisms become pathogens, causing severe disease in the swine host.

I am currently a supervisor of the Bacteriology Section at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Iowa State University. I also teach the Clinical Microbiology course for 4th year veterinarian students. I obtained my degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2005, and Master’s degree in Veterinary Pathology in 2009, both from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. In 2015, I completed the PhD program in Swine Health at the University of Minnesota.
