Paulo Arruda currently work as an assistant professor and diagnostic pathologist at the Iowa State University Diagnostic Laboratory, one of the largest veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the world.
Approximately 75% out of the 70,000 cases we work annually are swine cases and among those the vast majority has an infectious disease component. His research focus has been in studies that expand our understanding/knowledge concerning pathogenesis, epidemiology and prevention of infectious disease of animals, primarily swine.
His PhD studies were focused in the pathogenesis, epidemiology and the development of new alternatives to prevent Clostridium difficile disease in piglets. He was also deeply involved in the identification and characterization of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and the porcine congenital tremor virus. Additionally, he has been involved in development of disease models in swine for the study of rotaviruses (types A, B, C) and Clostridium perfringens type A and porcine teschovirus.
